Don't mind this, it's for a group.

This is the voting for the group project of “The Open Source Project”. You can vote by clicking one of the arrows. Please also comment on ideas, to tell us exactly what you (don’t) like about it.

Nico Ekkart over 10 years

I like this idea, especially the humour part.

Christopher Pilcher over 10 years

So, FTL but as a sandbox? YES PLEASE <3

TheRedKnight over 10 years

This is probably to big.

Nico Ekkart over 10 years

Nothing’s too big.

Peter Nimroot over 10 years

I like this idea even more then mine. We could divide ourselves into groups which would work on various modules. Like one group would work on spaceship controls, other on AI etc. We also could make a tool for newbies, so they could easily implement new planets (solar systems?) into the game. So yeah, my vote goes here.

Daniel Holt over 10 years

I like this, what engine u thinking of? OpenGL?

Nico, when does the voting ends?

Nico Ekkart over 10 years

The 1st of september.

TheRedKnight over 10 years

can’t we end it already its 13 to 6… im dying to get some work done ;)

TheRedKnight over 10 years

I’ll make a todo list..

Nico Ekkart over 10 years

Nope sorry. I set this date and I’m sticking to it. Besides, who said there’s only gonna be one “winner” project?

TheRedKnight over 10 years

I didnt know that, can you tell me what it is you’re planning?

Nico Ekkart over 10 years

We’re gonna do several hackathons. One project might be too little. Also not everyone might like this idea, so there’s gonna be something for everyone.

TheRedKnight over 10 years

where will the hackathon go trough?

Nico Ekkart over 10 years

That’s something I need to discuss later. Some big possibilities: Github, Cloud9, Nitrous.io. Possibly also using asana.

Nico Ekkart over 10 years

btw, @TheRedKnight It’s getting closer now, 11-8

TheRedKnight over 10 years

ok, thx.

duxck over 10 years

I like this, also speaking of humor, aim at something like Day of the Tentacle, that is brilliant humor. :)

Stu4got1 over 10 years

I like the idea! Humor would be good for a game too.

-x- over 10 years

ok do we still have to do this its obvious which one is the winner.

Alex over 10 years

ok

TheRedKnight over 10 years

Has it already been started? its september :)

Alec Girman over 10 years

The project on github is still pretty empty. We need some more details on this idea, and maybe some images to start off with.

bashcommando over 10 years

Sounds cool

TheRedKnight over 10 years

@Alec Girman, Whats the project called?

Avaline Sky about 10 years

What language? I’m learning python so I can start programming on a raspberry pi whe I get one.

A 2d sidescroller game. Your objective is to get to the end of each level. Possibly action elements like pressure plates. We could also make it P2P where 2 players must cooperate to get to the end of the level.

Nico Ekkart over 10 years

I like this idea, especially all the different branches of programming it needs.

Rodrigo Medeiros over 10 years

If the idea is to develop a browser game, it could be easier to people try it, IMHO.

Bob over 10 years

Is this idea for a website?

shadowyabyss over 10 years

I like the P2P idea.

-x- over 10 years

how would we make it?

Nico Ekkart over 10 years

with html5 probably, maybe node.js as well

AEA over 10 years

Look forward to participating no matter what the project is, but I like this one.

Piyush Dwivedi over 10 years

I love this idea and the one of making lists, this obviously is more complex. Would love to be involved.

I already know how to build a simple one

Daniel Holt over 10 years

@Alex but how about an advenced one? Maaybe use WebKit aswell, HTML5 etc.

Alex over 10 years

I’m not sure about an advanced one yet I’ll look into it.

-x- over 10 years

i can maybe build one with python 3 not sure though.

Pan_22 over 10 years

Almost a complete newb, no idea how much programming this would require/ which ones would be used (html? python? etc.) but it would be great if we could create a viable alternative to google web browsers…

Alex over 10 years

You can’t use html to build a web browser but you can use python.

Nico Ekkart over 10 years

how would you use html to build a browser? That would be inception. Html which parses html code.

me, myself, and I over 10 years

i think this would be cool. it seems that i would have to learn php to be of sny use though…

Alex over 10 years

you can’t use html to build a web browser

Sam over 10 years

create a web browser from scratch is very difficult. Believe me, its not that easy can’t be created int html or any other web language.

bashcommando over 10 years

I already made a browser. http://jsbrowser.wordpress.com/

A web app where people can make lists. But not to-do lists. For example:

  • Top 10 programming books
  • best movies of 2013
  • best 80 pop-songs
  • must-read books

Note that this will need a lot of backend work, possibly using Django or ROR

!!! SHAMELESS PLUG

I have a GPL licensed, Python3 and HTML5, interactive development environment called nush. It’s aimed at new programmers.

The code was just tidied up for a demo, and seems to all be working nicely.

If you’re after an open source project with lots of opportunities to spin off smaller sub-projects, that’s also very welcoming to people who are new to programming, check it out. I’d be delighted to have you on board.
