Codecademy is a NYC based startup that aims to equip people with employable digital skills by teaching them how to code. We are looking for a talented Web Design consultant with knowledge of front end development practices to design sample websites for our learners to build, and add visual assets needed in course lessons. The ideal candidate should have experience designing and working with engineers to build sites using modern technologies and best practices.

Every course we release requires a series of example projects and challenges that must be designed to meet current and future web design standards. As a design contractor you’ll work directly with our teachers to help produce new courses on our interactive learning platform.

Role:

Wireframe, mock-up, and deliver assets for beautiful and functional example websites which our learners will recreate as they take our courses.

Follow design and web best practices to set a good example for millions of people learning to code.

Stay up-to-date with the latest web trends, techniques and technologies.

Create educational diagrams and other assets that will be used in our interactive courses.

This is an ongoing project with an hourly or daily rate

The role can be remote, but you must be available during regular business hours to coordinate with project stakeholders.

Weekly hourly commitment with set check-ins and delivery dates (est. 15-30 hrs/wk)

You will be successful if:

You have a portfolio that shows you are able to create the following:

Design modern websites (such as blogs, e-commerce pages, creative portfolios, etc)

Basic UX and beautiful, intuitive UI for interactive web apps

Mobile responsive sites

Bonus points for basic branding and marketing copywriting skills

You have excellent communication skills, take initiative and seek feedback when needed

You are able to work well with Engineers to bring your designs to life

Deliver high quality work on quick turnarounds

Requirements:

1+ years design experience on various platforms

Sketch

Adobe Creative Suite

Basic understanding of UX

Basic knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, Javascript

Demonstrable typographic skills

Layout / Composition skills

Experience with basic branding and copywriting preferred
