Why don't we have Lua in our course?
The problem with a Lua course on Codecademy is the API. A lot of people want to learn Lua for specific programs, like Photoshop, WoW and the Computercraft mod for Minecraft. You can’t fully teach the APIs of these programs right inside of a window.
But nevertheless, I would like a basic tutorial on the Lua language just to get started.
Traditionally, one can learn PHP, Python or Ruby as a backen-end programming language. But recently, there were huge successful results for making lua available in major web servers, like nginx, lighty and the upcoming Apache 2.4. Another refernce is Cloudflare sucessfully using Lua+Nginx http://blog.cloudflare.com/pushing-nginx-to-its-limit-with-lua There are emerging new web technologies based on lua, that make node.js look like a turtle http://bluehua.org/demo/php.node.lua.html More: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1166684/what-web-server-to-use-for-lua-web-development/1181803#1181803
So in short, Lua is the new thing one should be learning now! Please add it :D
If LUA is supposed to be beginner/user friendly and we had Hour of Code a few weeks ago shouldn’t they have added LUA as a course since Hour of Code is toward showing anyone can code? Adding on to that I do think they should add LUA to CodeCademy for some of my personal reasons and so everyone can have someone where else to learn LUA because if you google LUA Lessons you find about 2 to 4 websites that teach LUA and they teach it in a bad way (copying and pasting lines of code).
I understand it not being web native and the need for an advanced compiler, but it would be such a great learning tool that it really would be worth it. Learning Lua is an inspiring motivator for many younger programmers because they can relate directly to its application.
Any word on if we can get Lua? It’s the whole reason I’m learning to code. No one teaches it! I take that back there is a youtuber peasfactory that has some good tuts. although some things have to be changed do to updates to roblox. Please teach Lua.
Lua is a easy language for most people that are just starting with programming. Point taken, CA isn’t the place where we learn how to use such languages (Lua is still used mostly in game development).
- Lua is a easy language for all teenagers / adults out there that wish to learn a programming language
- You can use the knowledge in multiple places. World of Warcraft, ROBLOX (Game development platform, where you can actually get paid for your games, Love2D and even Web purposes)
- It will be quite hard to actually implent this in the editor, since the languages that are supported are web languages.
