What makes Codeacademy the host?

It seems there are three possible answers:
1) Because that is the site in whose domain we currently reside (it is "hosting" the request).
2) Because that site holds the desired content (It "hosts" the data you wish to retrieve).
3) Because that is the server we wish to query (that address "hosts" the server with which you wish to interact).

I think all three make up the answer to your question.
