If your new to Coding at an age of 14, can I start a career with this?

Hello. I am 14 years old. I want to start a career as a game or website developer, and I am wondering at this older age in career development if I can get a Job with these sets of skills. Thanks.

Depending on what level your skill set is at, I would say that you can. Depending on where you live, you would have to comply to any regulations set forth that relate to having your own business of course. But it’s basically about having your own business and getting clients who need websites designed. You can have your relatives spread the word out for you and your clientele can grow that one (one of many ways).

As far as a game developer - that is a bit harder. Unless you are thinking about making simple games, it takes quiet a few people to make one. If you want to be a developer, your age is great to start learning. If you build a solid foundation now, you will have an easier time later. If your parents support you, they can help you out by having you take courses at your school related to programming, join a game club and so on.

It takes quite a lot of work - but if you are determined and you really like what you are doing, you will do great :)!

Awesome :D - Taking the initiative and joining Codecademy.com will help you in the long run and says quite a bit about your resolve, :).

I started making uber basic flash animations and games early in highschool, but didn’t follow through and went more into video production. I’m now 20 and just starting to get into java-based web games and applications. I definitely think I’m at a good age to get serious but at the same time if you are starting young you will definitely get a head start :)

Thanks for all the advice! With courses I’m taking at school (Java, CSS, HTML5) and a little bit of extra help from Codecademy, I’m in development of making my first 2D side-scrolling Indie game “Lunar Landing:1969”. I’ve also tinkered around with Unreal Dev Kit 4.
