ALERT: Known Bugs and FAQs
I have been having some trouble on some of the steps. I have noticed that when I change my web browser, the steps then work. So if you’re having a problem with some of the steps, try switching your web browser. I was on IE, then FF, and now I’m using Google Chrome, so we’ll see.

It is quite a job to keep all browsers happy all the time. Even when you’ve got it, a version change could break something.
These have been reported to the Codecademy engineers and could change at any time, either by the exercise being updated or when a browser version changes. I’ll try to keep an eye on them and update the list when things change.
Bugs that have been reported to the Codecademy engineers
1/21 - IE gives Make sure you have defined all the variables!. Workaround 1: use a different browser. Workaround 2: put a .

- this is crazy, please don’t think that this is really how to code :)
5/21 - Firefox gives Oops! try again with no other details. Workaround 1: use a different browser. Workaround 2: remove all of your code and leave only the style tags. You will need to replace your code on the next lesson.
12/21 - Won’t work in any browser if you don’t have the Helvetica font installed on your system.
15/21 - IE gives Expected body to have its background-position style equal to 50% 50% but got …. Workaround 1: use background-position: 50% 50%;
Workaround 2: use a different browser.

Hi navid_zunaid, I don’t have Edge to test with, but if you, or anyone, wants to test some of those known bugs and finds any problems, I would be happy to add that information to the llst.

thank you so much, I was stuck on this for far too long!
On Helvetica, I had to capitalize the H for it to be accepted. Maybe this will work for others who get stuck on this one.
Thanks!
Workaround 2: remove all of your code and leave only the style tags. <– worked for me
What about Google Chrome?, it gives me add a head and closing head tags when I already have them in correct format, I have checked and double checked all my code is correct.
@Codescript, please use the green “Ask a question” button, copy/paste in all of your code, include your exercise number and the exact error message you are seeing.
Thanks ! I designed websites before with dreamweaver. i was saying to myself “ I can’t be failing already at step #5!!”
Lesson 5 wouldn’t accept my correct answer, insertion of the tag, until I deleted all other code. Using Firefox on Linux.
@Tynna: the problem people usually have with that one is that they don’t have
They are overlooked when displaying the code in a web browser. The code checker still sees them though.

i did not realized the browsers is so important about it thx!
i tried to use ie but it just did not work. and i cant have google crome because i cant download it.
IE will work just fine for everything except exercise 1. Why can’t you download Chrome (just curious)? You can also use Firefox or Opera to get past exercise 1. You could also login on someone else’s computer just to do exercise 1. Be resourceful.

That’s ridiculous! The full stop worked - but that’s NOT how to code!! Mike if you are reading this please try to fix this!!
You’re right Nibbling, once the dust settles on bug fixing the new UI and the new thing that’s going to roll out on Monday, maybe there will be time to sort out some of these issues. At least everyone has been very good at figuring out workarounds.
Fix the bugs! The only browser I have is Firefox and I want to make my own website!
exercise 6. centre didnt respond. copy and paste it. start working again..
Your Trick No.2 on Exercise 5/21 worked for me. Thanks!
and Trick No.1 for exercise 10/21 also worked.
Trick 2 worked for me, I just copied my code before erasing all but the style tags and it let me pass. Then I just pasted my code back on the next lesson. Thanks for the helpful hints!
Wow, thanks a lot!

I was really racking my brain on “About You” and why it wasn’t working when entering
thank you so much!
This really helps. Thanks!
(Also, do you work with Codecademy?)
I’m glad you found it useful. I don’t work for Codecademy if you mean as an employee, I’m a moderator which is a volunteer activity.
Oh.

Workaround 3 for exercise 5/21: is to add your code inside a comment tags (see below).

Something happened to my sun orbiting earth thing my whole thing won’t listen to my commands now!!
@Carl, you aren’t talking about the same project that we are discussing here. Each project has its own Q&A Forum. Look for the Q&A link in the exercise that you are having trouble with - that will take you to the right place.
ok sorry
@Carl, no problem!
Thanks for the workaround for 15/21! Super helpful. The one that was not the switching browsers one.
thanks 1/21 was really useful
Thanks that helped alot.
wow! this is really helpfull
Thanks but how would I install Helvetica into my system?
Hi Nab2210, Helvetica is not available for free. Hopefully the exercise that requires it is updated at some point to remove that requirement.
AlbionsRefuge, What about 11/21. It’s not working for me.
Hi benandjonny2, there is no bug in 11/21. Maybe you have a typing mistake? Post your code over here http://www.codecademy.com/forums/web-beginner-en-3pc6w/1 and I’ll have a look.
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what abut 17/21
H Kendall, there are no known bugs with exercise 17/21. You can use the “Ask a question” button to start a new thread, post all of your code and the error message you are seeing.
Thank you!! :)
im getting lots of oops try again on google chrome
Hi Bryoni, In this project I have not had any problems with Chrome. If you post your code then someone will check to make sure it isn’t a typing mistake or something similar.
its ok i figured it out ! thanx anyway
Good work Bryoni!
thanx
} input[type=”submit”] { background: limegreen; color: black; } 20/21 My code does not recognize my input for CSS with the error “Oops, try again. Give your ‘input[type=”submit”]’ a ‘background’ of ‘limegreen’ “
HI Khonh lo, the good news is that there is no known bug in exercise 20/21. The problem is likely from a typing mistake in your code. If you want anyone to have a look, you’ll need to post all of your code. That will work best if you start a new thread and use these steps to post the code: http://www.codecademy.com/forum_questions/51d9e8f68c1cccc92403ffe8
I’m having the same problem. I typed exactly what the hint shows, but “limegreen” remains gray instead of turning orange like when I typed “black” for the font color.
Hi Christina, the word “limegreen” doesn’t change colour because the part of the editor that does the highlighting is not aware of that word. The JavaScript interpreter in your web browser however, does know what it means. So, if the rest of your code it correct, it will be happy to give you a limegreen button.
