HTML and CSS do not have versions. They are Recommendations. Each build upon a single core of recommendations, and each recommendation is still under review, even the earliest ones.

HTML5 and CSS3 are not standalone's. Without the earlier REC's they are devoid of any core structural elements or core property sets. If as you say, you 'need to learn the latest' then buckle up, you need to learn all of HTML, and all of CSS. That's the reality.

You could have said all that and also answered his question.

Right you are. Edited and toned down the rhetoric.

Dig into these tracks and do lots of reading on each topic as it is introduced. If this is field that interests you then start looking for formal training, certificate programs, or even degree programs. You are in command.
